One of Yakutia’s biggest chess events of the year returned with the support of RNG, as the fourth Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Chess Cup brought together players from across the country. This year’s tournament carried special weight, marking the centenary of organised chess in the region.
Over the course of the event, four competitions played out side by side: a stage of the Russian Chess Cup for men, blitz and rapid tournaments, and a contest in solving chess compositions.
Around 140 competitors from 12 Russian regions travelled to take part in the tournament, including seven international grandmasters. Dmitry Kokarev of Sverdlovsk Oblast claimed the Head of Yakutia Cup for the second time. Yakutia’s own Vladislav Zhirkov and Artur Vasilyev also secured places in the top ten.
RNG has supported the tournament since it was launched in 2023 and continues to back sporting initiatives across the republic. Through projects like this, the Company helps create more opportunities for competition, talent development and wider participation in sport.
