The Company funded the First Open Mind Sport Championship of Mirninsky District featuring chess and checkers tournaments, all in honour of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Over 150 young athletes aged 5–18 joined the Championship from Yakutian towns of Mirny, Udachny, and Lensk, with the winners and runners-up enjoying diplomas, gift certificates, and souvenirs.
The hosts were very grateful to RNG for its help and support: the participants said the event was very well-organised.
Chess and checkers are great games for cultivating strategic thinking, encouraging critical thinking, and enhancing your decision-making abilities—in other words, they are conducive for developing skills that every person should have, says Ivan Fedorov, Director of the Centre for Further Education in Mirny and host of the Tournament. He believes businesses do a lot of good supporting events like these as they inspire children to try chess and make sure our younger generation is well-rounded.
