RNG is contributing more than RUB 3.5 million to The Red Horseman, a new production being developed with the Trust Fund for Future Generations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The Red Horseman will premiere at the D.K. Sivtsev-Suorun Omolloon State Opera and Ballet Theatre in spring 2027.
The ballet takes its name from the red horseman depicted on Yakutia’s coat of arms. Its roots reach back much further, to imagery found among the ancient Shishkino petroglyphs. The production will explore that history and the search for the origins of a symbol that has become part of the republic’s identity.
The ballet is being choreographed by Ekaterina Taishina, the theatre’s chief ballet master and an Honoured Artist of Russia and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Its visual language will also draw on Nicholas Roerich’s 1920s series Maitreya (or The Red Horseman). The score has been written by composer Ruslan Mursyakaev, known for his work on Nyurgun Bootur and Alice in Wonderland, while theatre director Vladislav Levochkin has created the libretto.
The premiere is scheduled for April 2027. The timing is symbolic: the year marks 395 years since Yakutia became part of Russia, 105 years since the republic was established, and 35 years since the adoption of its present-day coat of arms.
RNG regularly backs major cultural projects in Yakutia. The Red Horseman promises to be a major addition to Yakutia’s cultural scene.
