The Company is continuing to pursue artificial reproduction of aquatic bioresources. RNG Ecologists have released about 800,000 pelad fry into the Vilyuiskoye Water Reservoir in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Pelad is also called northern whitefish; it is a valuable genus of the salmon family. The company has outdone itself this year, beating last year’s record by more than four times.
Young whitefishes are reared by order of RNG at the Chernyshevsky fish breeding plant in the Mirny district of Yakutia using modern technology. The rearing process copies natural conditions as closely as it can and takes a couple of months.
Afterwards, specialists place the fry in polythene capsules and transport them to the water body. Before releasing them, though, they make sure the temperature in the river and the bags with the fish is the same, and only then put them into the water. Only a few fish die, experts say. The fish will take three years to bear the first offspring.
This is a regular occurrence for RNG as the Company stocks Yakutia’s water bodies every year to support the region’s ecosystem and restore the populations of valuable fish species. Since 2018, RNG ecologists have released more than 3.5 million salmon fry into local water bodies and 4 million overall if you include RNG Group companies.
