RNG advanced geological exploration methods achieve success

13.08.2021

At the Eastern blocks of the Srednebotuobinskoye oil and gas condensate field (EB SB OGCF) development of the Botuobinsky horizon was completed in well 515-R, which resulted in a production oil rate of 40 tons per day.

The Botuobinsky horizon is characterized by a heterogeneous subsurface profile and area, yet it is the most interesting oil and gas horizon in the entire EB SB OGCF area.

While drilling the exploration well, the geological and technical programme was fully completed, including coring, a set of geophysical surveys, open-hole hydrodynamic logging and wireline logging tests, and analysis of downhole oil samples.

Based on the results of this research, the geological and hydrodynamic model of the formation was refined, making it possible to transfer reserves from category “B2” to “A” and to lay down a new production pad in the Eastern blocks area.

“Modern technology has improved our approaches to hydrocarbon exploration, allowing us to significantly increase the accuracy of our exploration forecasts. In the short term, we are set to introduce advanced analytics tools and automatic planning of technological solutions. This will help reduce the costs of geological exploration projects and minimise the impact on Yakutian nature,” said Pavel Grechikho, Deputy CEO – Chief Geologist of RNG.

RNG is currently focused on introducing modern technology solutions for geological exploration and field development. The company’s key objective in this area remains unchanged – to ensure an increase in hydrocarbon reserves by applying advanced technologies that minimise the environmental impact. Year after year, the company’s geologists have successfully met this challenge.
